If you’ve been daydreaming about sun-drenched beaches, gourmet tacos, and the kind of luxury that soothes your soul, let me introduce you to your next must-visit destination: Puerto Vallarta – a city bursting with color, flavor, and coastal charm. From San Francisco to Sun-Soaked Shores

Getting to Puerto Vallarta from San Francisco was a breeze, a direct flight in just under four hours, and suddenly, I was trading foggy mornings for warm sea breezes. The Puerto Vallarta Airport offers a seamless arrival, with Casa Velas’ private pickup ensuring a swift, luxurious transition to bliss. Air-conditioned SUV, chilled bottled water, soft music playing – it was the perfect welcome.

Before diving into resort life, let’s take a moment to appreciate Puerto Vallarta itself. This charming beach town on Mexico’s Pacific coast is a vibrant mix of old-world architecture, cobblestone streets, and golden beaches lined with palm trees. It’s the kind of place where you can sip a cold drink by the ocean one moment and wander through a colorful art gallery or bustling local market the next. The Zona Romantica neighborhood is alive with music, tacos, and culture, while the Malecón boardwalk offers the perfect sunset stroll with ocean views on one side and street performers on the other. Whether you’re an adventurer, foodie, or laid-back lounger, Puerto Vallarta captures hearts with its warm hospitality and stunning scenery.

Casa Velas: A Hidden Gem in Puerto Vallarta

Tucked away in the Marina Vallarta neighborhood, Casa Velas is not your typical beach resort – it’s an adults-only boutique retreat that feels more like a private estate than a hotel. Think tropical gardens, koi ponds, trickling fountains, and colonial-inspired architecture. It’s serene, intimate, and infused with local elegance.

With just 80 suites, you get the luxury of peace and quiet paired with top-tier service. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, sipping a fresh juice from the Aqua Bar, or catching a yoga class on the lawn, everything feels curated and intentional.

First Impressions: Love at First Sight

You know when a place just feels right? Casa Velas is one of those rare gems. The moment I stepped onto the property, I was greeted with a hibiscus welcome drink, a warm towel, and genuine smiles. The check-in was relaxed, with no lines or chaos – just a slow, welcoming experience that instantly told me I was in good hands.

Suite Life: Private Pool & Garden Dreams

Now let’s talk about my suite. I stayed in one of their Grand Class Plus Suites, complete with a private plunge pool and garden – yes, I gasped too. Waking up to birdsong, doing morning stretches by the pool, and having evening swims under the stars made it feel like my own personal paradise. The suite was spacious and stylish, with warm Mexican textures, a dreamy king bed, luxe linens, and even a pillow and scent menu.

Emiliano Restaurant: Flavor, Elevated

Every morning at Emiliano Restaurant felt like waking up to a fine dining experience. From the avocado toast topped with edible flowers to the chilaquiles that danced with spice and crunch, each dish was thoughtfully crafted and beautifully plated.

But as much as I adored the breakfast and lunch offerings, it was dinnertime at Emiliano that truly swept me off my feet. Evenings at Casa Velas transform into something magical, with live performances that elevate the dining experience to an art form. One night, a saxophone player serenaded us with smooth jazz as the sun set, another night brought in a lively mariachi band that had guests clapping along between bites of grilled octopus and mole short ribs. The most unforgettable moment? A mesmerizing fire dance performance under the stars, it was like dinner and a show, all within the resort’s tranquil garden setting. These unexpected touches made each night feel special and different, adding a layer of romance and culture to every meal.

Culture, Cuisine & Coastal Vibes in the City

Of course, I couldn’t come to Puerto Vallarta and not explore the local food scene. A few highlights:

  • Pancho’s Takos – A must-visit in the Romantic Zone, famous for its juicy tacos al pastor, cooked on a vertical spit and topped with grilled pineapple. This dish has Lebanese roots, inspired by shawarma brought by immigrants to Mexico, resulting in a delicious cultural fusion. The line’s worth the wait for these flavor-packed, late-night favorites.
  • Mar Y Vino – A modern, stylish spot with a unique twist: diners sit at tables on a glass walkway over shallow water, so you’re literally dipping your toes while sipping craft cocktails. Their seafood risotto and mezcal margaritas were next-level, and the ocean view? Pure magic.

But Puerto Vallarta is about more than just food – it’s a city that blends culture, creativity, and charm. The vibrant art scene includes colorful murals, seaside sculptures, and galleries tucked into cobblestone streets. Whether you’re exploring the Romantic Zone or strolling the Malecón, the city’s walkability makes it easy to soak in its beauty, think blooming bougainvillea, ocean breezes, and spontaneous street performances that make every corner feel like a discovery.

Poolside Bliss & Swim-Up Sips

Back at the resort, the central pool has a whole vibe. Surrounded by lush greenery, it’s calm, quiet, and comes with a swim-up bar serving everything from smoothies to spicy margaritas. I spent many lazy afternoons floating, reading, and recharging with zero distractions.

All-Inclusive, Elevated

This isn’t your average all-inclusive. At Casa Velas, everything from 24-hour in-room dining to mini-bar refills and room service feels elevated and elegant. Whether I wanted an espresso and fresh fruit at 7 AM or chocolate cake and sparkling rosé at 10 PM, it was all included and delivered with a smile. They truly go above and beyond with suite service, including nightly turndown and aromatherapy.

Spa Serenity: The Abja Experience

I treated myself to a morning at the ABJA Spa, and wow – this place is pure tranquility. My massage therapist used lavender oils and intuitive techniques that melted away every knot. The hydrotherapy circuit was an experience on its own, and the spa’s garden setting made it feel like I’d entered a secret sanctuary.

Puerto Vallarta stole my heart – and Casa Velas wrapped it in velvet. Whether you’re looking for a romantic escape, a solo recharge, or just a luxurious place to sip margaritas and eat tacos under the sun, this destination checks all the boxes. I returned home glowing, grounded, and already plotting my next visit.
